Tropical Waves Holiday
Tour Overview
Tropical Waves Holiday is a 6-night, 7-day journey that combines Sri Lanka’s cultural highlights with some of its most popular coastal destinations. Covering Colombo, Galle and Bentota, with a Kandy excursion built into the arrival day when flight timings allow, the itinerary offers a balanced mix of heritage, beaches, local experiences and city sightseeing.
The trip begins in Colombo, where travellers arriving before 9 AM can head straight to Kandy for a full-day excursion. Highlights include the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic, Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens and a local spice and fruit market before returning to Colombo for the night.
From Colombo, continue south to Galle, one of Sri Lanka’s most atmospheric coastal cities and a UNESCO World Heritage destination. Spend two nights exploring the historic Galle Fort, colonial-era streets and the scenic southern coastline. The city tour also passes through Ambalangoda, known for traditional mask-making, and Hikkaduwa, famous for coral reefs, marine life and tropical beach scenery.
The journey then moves to Bentota for two relaxing nights by the coast. Enjoy a boat safari along the Madu River, where mangroves, small islands and rich birdlife create a peaceful nature experience. Visit the Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation Project and learn about efforts to protect endangered sea turtles. A day excursion to Cinnamon Island adds a local cultural touch, with a look at traditional cinnamon harvesting and processing methods.
The final leg returns to Colombo for a city tour covering landmarks such as Independence Square, Galle Face Green, Viharamahadevi Park, the World Trade Centre Towers and the Old Parliament Building. The trip ends with a final night in the capital before departure.
With coastal stays, cultural sightseeing and city experiences woven into one compact itinerary, Tropical Waves Holiday works well for travellers looking for a Sri Lanka beach holiday that also includes heritage, nature and local flavour.

Frequently Asked Questions
Worth thinking through carefully. As currently written, Day 1 has you landing in Colombo, driving roughly 3-3.5 hours to Kandy with a stop at Pinnawala on the way, doing a full day of sightseeing (Temple of the Tooth, botanical gardens, spice market), then driving 3-3.5 hours back to Colombo the same night. The itinerary itself notes this only works if you land by 9 AM — any flight delay puts the whole day at risk. If you're not landing early or don't want a long first day right after a flight, ask about moving this excursion or skipping it.
Yes — the itinerary states this tour can only run if your arrival is by 9 AM. If your flight lands later, this Day 1 plan won't be feasible as scheduled, so check with your travel advisor about alternatives before booking if your flight timing is uncertain.
About 2.5 hours and 125 km, largely along the coast. It's considered one of the more pleasant drives in Sri Lanka, so it's not just a transit day.
Day 3 covers the 17th-century Dutch Fort, along with passing through Ambalangoda (known for traditional mask-making) and Hikkaduwa (known for coral reefs) en route. It's largely a walking and scenic tour rather than a series of ticketed sites.
It's a Day 5 excursion from Bentota — a family-run island where you can see traditional cinnamon harvesting and processing. The boat trip to the island itself is not included and is paid directly on the day.
