Tour Overview

Blue Waves Holiday is a 5-night, 6-day journey covering Sigiriya, Kandy, Bentota and Colombo, with a mix of heritage, culture, nature and coastal experiences. The route works well for travellers looking for a Sigiriya Kandy Bentota tour that includes some of Sri Lanka’s best-known landmarks without spending too many days on the road.

The trip begins with a transfer from Colombo Airport to Sigiriya, where you’ll spend the first night before exploring the famous Sigiriya Rock Fortress. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of Sri Lanka’s most recognised attractions, known for its ancient ruins, rock paintings and panoramic views.

From Sigiriya, continue to Kandy, Sri Lanka’s cultural capital. Visit the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic and, if you wish, experience a traditional Kandyan cultural show. The itinerary also includes a day excursion to Dambulla Cave Temple, known for its historic cave shrines, Buddhist paintings and impressive collection of statues.

After two nights in Kandy, the journey moves towards Bentota. On the way, enjoy the natural surroundings of the Madu River with a boat safari through mangroves and small islands, followed by a visit to the Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation Project. Bentota adds a relaxing coastal break after the cultural and heritage-focused part of the trip.

The final stop is Colombo, where a city tour covers highlights such as Independence Square, Galle Face Green, Viharamahadevi Park, the World Trade Centre Towers and the Old Parliament Building before departure.

With a route that combines Sigiriya’s heritage, Kandy’s culture, Bentota’s coastal experiences and Colombo’s city sights, Blue Waves Holiday offers a compact way to see several different sides of Sri Lanka in one journey.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 6 days enough to cover Sigiriya, Kandy, Bentota and Colombo?

Yes, this is a realistic pace for these four places without feeling rushed — one night in Sigiriya (an overnight stop, not a full base), two nights in Kandy so you're not doing everything in one day, and a night each in Bentota and Colombo before departure. If you also want Nuwara Eliya or Galle in depth, you'd need to extend the trip or pick a package that includes them instead.

Do I need to climb Sigiriya Rock myself, and how difficult is it?

Yes, seeing Sigiriya properly means climbing it — it involves roughly 1,200 steps, some steep and via metal staircases partway up. It's manageable for most fit adults but is a real physical climb, not a walk. If anyone in your group has knee issues, heart conditions, or a fear of heights, plan for a slower pace or ask your advisor about alternatives.

Is Sri Lanka safe for Indian tourists travelling with family?

Generally yes — Sri Lanka is a common and well-established destination for Indian travellers, with tourist areas well set up for it. Normal travel precautions apply: keep valuables secure, use hotel safes, and stick to registered drivers and guides, which this package already provides.

Is tap water safe to drink in Sri Lanka?

Stick to bottled or filtered water, including for brushing teeth, especially outside major hotels. Hotels on this itinerary generally provide bottled water in rooms, but always confirm at check-in.

What currency should I carry, and are cards accepted?

Sri Lankan Rupees (LKR) is the local currency. Major hotels and city restaurants accept cards, but carry some cash for smaller vendors, tuk-tuks, and entrance fees at sites like Sigiriya and Dambulla, which are usually paid in cash or USD directly at the counter.
